Tetsuya Tokiwatari, better know as the Commander is the leader of the A.E.G.I.S. Far-East Branch oversees the operations and deployments of Japan's Gate Keepers.

Introduction[]

The Commander is the calm highest commander of A.E.G.I.S. Japan Branch. He directs the Gatekeepers and gives missions to them.

Background[]

The Commander was once an Ensign in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II, and was supposed to fly an Ohka piloted bomb on a suicide mission in 1945, near the end of World War II. However, his mother ship was shot down, and ironically, he was the sole survivor. When he attempted to commit suicide with a pistol after being rescued by the US Navy, he was restrained by a sailor who told him two words: "Stay alive." This changed his life and after the war he was one of the first members of the Police Reserve (later the Japan Self Defense Force).

While in command of the Japan branch of A.E.G.I.S, the commander and his assistant Keiko Ochiai were attacked by deep-cover Invader Soldiers presence in the eastern branch itself. While the Commander was able to protect all those who were not Invader spies, the A.E.G.I.S. base was left in ruin, and the Gate Robo out of commission, there was little hope for Shun Ukiya and the other Gatekeepers to overcome Reiji Kageyama's Invader army. To make matters worse, the New York Headquarters decided to abandon the Far East Branch with the hope that its sacrifice would prevent further destruction. Despite these setbacks the Commanders Gatekeepers faced and defeated the Invaders.

Trivia[]

  • In the PlayStation Gate Keepers RPG and the Gate Keepers 1985 novel, it is revealed that the Commander's name is Tetsuya Tokiwatari.
